Apparently I live in the land of 2 percent.

“The denizens of this land believe that anything that makes their image at least 2 percent better is worth the extra time, money and effort,” photographers Tony Corbell and Josh Haftel write in their new book.

That sounds like me. That’s why I bought a Nikon D4, the new flagship of Nikon’s DSLR lineup. It has a new sensor and new processor (which mean better detail and tremendously improved performance in low light), improved metering, a new autofocus system …

The D4 is all about getting the shot someone else won’t. So even though it costs more than my first car, I got one.

My second camera is a Nikon D700 and the third is a D7000, both of which are wonderful. I’ll use all three at weddings, each with a different lens and a different purpose.

My favorite lenses are my 50mm f/1.4, 24-70mm f/2.8 and 80-200mm f/2.8, all top-of-the-line Nikons. I also carry an awesome ultra-wide, the 10-24mm.

I shoot as much as I can with available light, but when I need a flash, I use Nikon’s SB-900, which is more powerful than its predecessors and more versatile.

I wouldn’t use anything but SanDisk’s Extreme Pro memory cards. They’re super-reliable and they resist shock, vibration, temperature and humidity. Other cards are less expensive, but these are your wedding photographs we’re talking about.

I haul everything around in a great Tamrac CyberPro bag (which is where I hide the chocolate).

I could bore you with a bunch of technical nonsense, but what it all means is that your photographs will be great. If you’d like details, I’m always happy to talk cameras and lenses.

My favorite software is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4. Awesome! I also use Photoshop CS5 and some hot plug-ins from Nik and Alien Skin to make your images look terrific. Nik’s Silver Efex Pro 2, Viveza2 and Color Efex Pro 4.0 are worth every penny.

For personal shooting (see the “Out and About” page), I carry less equipment, so I use a Think Tank Retrospective 10 bag.

I buy almost everything from B&H Photo.

P.S. — I use what I use because I like the products. I buy from B&H because it’s a great company. I don’t get discounts, kickbacks or click-through fees.

I’m a longtime member of the Professional Photographers of America and Nikon Professional Services.
